We have recently asked for the support of the families of Etching Hill in becoming a ‘Nut-Free’ school. The aim of this is very straight forward, we want to provide a safe environment for those children who have a nut allergy. This type of allergy is incredibly dangerous, a reaction can be life threatening and so gaining whole school parental support is vital.
What must I avoid sending into school with my child?
There are lots of items which are suitable for snacks in school, we are asking parents NOT to send in nuts themselves, products which contain actual nuts (such as Nutella, peanut butter, cereal bars with nuts or chocolate bars with nuts such as picnic, fruit and nut etc).
There are several alternative products, for example chocolate spreads, a little bit of ‘googling’ may help you to identify many more ideas of foods which are safe for school.
