SIAMS REPORT 2016
What is the SIAMS Report?
As a Church of England school, Etching Hill Primary School are formally inspected by the Diocese and a summary of this inspection forms the S.I.A.M.S Report (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools Report). We received our latest inspection on the 22nd September 2016 and we are delighted to share the wonderful news that;
The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Etching Hill CE Primary School as a Church of England school are outstanding.
Being ’outstanding’ does not mean simply that boxes have been ticked, it took place on a typical day at Etching Hill; the children were simply being their own unique, wonderful selves. This judgement means that the Inspector could clearly see evidence within the children’s behaviours, relationships and learning that reflected the fact that Christian values are embedded in all areas of our school life.
You may wonder about the significance of Etching Hill being a Church School, and the following quotation from the Archbishop of Wales is one which we feel answers this perfectly.
A Christian school is one in which the atmosphere has that kind of openness about it, that sense that people are worth spending time with, that people need time to grow, need loving attention. The Christian Gospel says that every person has a unique task to do, with God, and for God, whether they know it or not.
It doesn’t necessarily mean than everyone involved has to share the same theology or philosophy. It doesn’t mean that everyone knows that they have this relationship with God, and is consciously working at it. But a Christian school is one in which the entire atmosphere is pervaded by the conviction that there is something mysterious, and potentially wonderful, in everybody.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to every person who has contributed to this exceptional accolade, Governors who support our school with such dedication and commitment, staff who work meticulously hard to constantly exceed expectations, most importantly your incredibly supportive families and of course our wonderful children, who every day inspire and amaze me.
For me, being a Church School means that the Christian ethos is used quite simply to make us the very best school that we can be. I will leave you with some direct quotes from the Inspection Report which I feel capture the essence of Etching Hill.
Etching Hill Primary School is an extremely happy and caring community in which pupils feel valued and secure and are empowered to succeed...Behaviour of pupils is of the highest standard…...Christian care and nurture makes every child in the school feel special, valued and included.
